Upcoming London gigs for the broke & excited

A selection of gigs in the next few weeks that we’ll be at or wishing we were at – they’re either free or cheap or WORTH IT:

  • Fri 2 June: Cannibal Hymns present Hotel Lux, Education, Our Girl @ Old Blue Last / free / tickets on Dice – Our Girl are relentlessly amazing live. This’ll be packed.

  • Fri 2 June: The Courtneys @ The Shacklewell Arms / £7 / tickets on Dice – sun bleached poppy lo-fi for £7.

  • Sat 3 June: Skinny Girl Diet at Decolonise Fest @ DIY Space for London / £12 plus fees / tickets via Bands In Town – Skinny Girl Diet are really powerful live, I’ve seen them during the day before and it was still extremely heavy and DIY and exciting, so they will be delightful (in a horrible way, of course).

  • Tues 6 June: Tigercub, Shit Girlfriend, Puppy @ Dingwalls / £9 / tickets on Dice – Obviously this will be amazing. It’s at Dingwalls too.

  • Tues 6 June: FOXES magazine presents Sisteray, LICE, Girls In Synthesis @ Old Blue Last / free / RSVP on Facebook – Highlight will be Girls In Sythesis; crunchy, dirty, seductive guitar.

  • Thurs 8 June: Vinyl Staircase, Factory Seconds, Caramel @ Lock Tavern / free – Vinyl Staircase are Lock Tavern favs, which speaks highly in my book.

  • Mon 12 June: Kali Uchis @ Jazz Café Camden / £ 13.20 inc booking fee / tickets via Songkick on sale 10am 2nd June – this is definitely going to sell out fast. Kali Uchis is playing Oslo too, the day after I think, but Jazz Café will be a total treat. This will be a pretty seminal show I reckon!

  • Thurs 15 June: Imperial Daze, Show Boy @ Lock Tavern / free / RSVP on Facebook – I can’t find anything on Show Boy online so worth going to see who/what it is.

  • Fri 16 June: Honeyblood @ Koko / £16.50 / tickets via Bands In Town – Honeyblood feel reminiscent of Veruca Salt and Bratmobile, but with a really modern take and inventive melodies. This is an exciting one.

  • Sat 17 June: The Pussywarmers, Réka @ The Shacklewell Arms / free / tickets on Dice – The Pussywarmers is obviously an eye catching name (not really sure what to make of it in all honesty, and I’m no prude), but this is pretty cool jazzy swingy lo-fi-y music that will be interesting to see live.

  • Tues 20 June: CLEAN present Claw Marks, Bones Garage, Ice Cold Slush @ Birthdays / free / RSVP on Facebook – Claw Marks are wild live. Guitar guitar GUITARRRRRRRRRRR

  • Thurs 22 June: Las Kellies @ The Victoria / free / tickets on Dice – More of that sun drenched sound: indie with a pop-ish glaze. Big fan.

Also: Dream Wife just announced another tour so book that ASAP because they are total blissful violent intoxication live. It’s not til October but it’s at Scala in London and The Haunt in Brighton so THAT KINDA VENUE – it’ll be amazing.
